My little studio is starting to feel like home! My parents came in earlier this week to hang the cutest window treatments you ever did see and my sofa will be moved in this weekend. I've been trying to share bits and pieces on Instagram (here, here, and here) but I'm such a perfectionist that I don't want to reveal too much until everything is just right!
While I continue to decorate and explore my new neighborhood, I would love to hear some of your New York favorites! Whether you live here or just visit every chance you get, I'm sure you have plenty of recommendations I haven't discovered yet. It might be fun to make a list of new places to try and share the ones I love most here on the blog. So if you have a favorite brunch spot, coffee shop, dog park, takeout place... Please share below!
Keep up with Design Darling

welcome to the city mackenzie! :) if you want an incredible cappuccino (their paninis are amazing as well) go to via quadronno on 73rd and madison - it is so adorable and you feel like you are somewhere in italy or paris!
Great timing on this post! We're headed to NYC for a long wknd. I've been twice before and my husband has never been. I'll keep my eye on this post!

welcome!! i've posted some of my favorite NYC restaurants here: http://littleladyinthebigapple.blogspot.com/2012/02/20-best-restaurants-in-nyc.html
Mario batali's Babbo on waverly place.
Hands down the best restaurant ive eaten at.

Jane is also great fro brunch - http://www.thejanenyc.com/
Catch is such a cool scene for dinner/drinks - http://emmgrp.com/restaurants/catch/
I'm a huge HUGE fan of Penrose on 2nd between 82nd and 83rd. It's really cute and they have the the MOST fantastic brunch menu (my personal favorite is the bacon egg and cheese on brioche!)
Definitely check out Ze Cafe, they have really delicious breakfast and lunch. Its fairly gourmet, but reasonably priced for how good the food and service is!
red rooster for an inventive cocktail and a harlem-hip scene (125th St off the 2/3 train); mermaid inn for dollar oysters and the very cutest branding ever - LOVE that place; porcena and frankie's spuntino for incredible italian.
too many places... but lastly the bronx zoo - come visit :)
grey dog is my favorite brunch ever. very homey. theres one in union square and one in soho. i love everything about central park. 16 handles is the best frozen yogurt ever ever. we need to get together! i want to see your apartment :)
Well I've only been to NYC once, but if you're looking for a cute happy hour place there's a rooftop bar called 230 Fifth and it's heated and you can wear robes and they have yummy cocktails like spiked apple cider! If you go you have to tell me what you think! ALSO there's an amazing speakeasy called Raine's Law Room. You have to make reservations but it is the coolest little place. I like how all my suggestions involve alcohol...oops
Champagne Lifestyle on a Beer Budget
Some of my favs:
-Bubby's for brunch (great for celeb gawking too).
-Antique Garage in soho for Mediterranean food
-Raines Law Room - speakeasy style lounge (you can only make reservations Sun-Tues. It sometimes can be tough to get in on the weekends, so go early).
-Gramercy Tavern will always be my favorite. Hit up the Tavern for a more casual meal.
-Press Lounge for a killer view
-Boqueria for tapas and wine
Spring Street Natural, ABC, ABC Kitchen. God I love the city

Welcome to NYC! There are too many amazing places in the city to list them all, but these are a few that come to mind. Sauce for the best Italian, Westville for the veggies, and Stumptown for the best coffee and treats from across the city. And don't forget to hit up the outer boroughs! I've been having daydreams about going to Pies 'n Thighs in Williamsburg for the past two weeks.
Candle Cafe (amazing vegan restaurant)
Neighborhood: Upper East Side
LaDuree (best macaroons ever! we like the Blackberry + Cassis)
Upper East Side
Eataly - Italian Food Emporium
Flatiron District
We loved the vegetable restaurant!
Mamoun's Falafel (great falafel - it's like $2 per)
Greenwich Village
119 MacDougal St
Jack's Stir Brew Coffee (best Iced Coffee)
Greenwich Village
Momofoku Milk Bar (try the compost cookie!)
Norma's (amazing breakfast - for a splurge!)
Midtown
The Burger Joint - at the Parker Meridian (ask for it at the Front Desk - it's kind of hidden)
Midtown
Grom (great gelato!)
Welcome! I'd have to say a few places to check out are
Stand4 for really good kobe beef burgers and alcoholic milkshakes, plus homemade gingerale!
Mehenata for an absolutely ridiculous bar/icebar/club. It's eastern european and hidden behind a restaurant but worth it.
Larry Lawrence for a much more laid back speak-easy in Brooklyn. Look for the Bar in red graffiti above the doorway.
Bembe for latin dancing. It's always packed but always a very good crowd, and again, hidden under the bridge, just look for the line outside.
I'm out in Brooklyn, so if you need any help don't hesitate to drop a line!

Hi neighbor!
Be sure to check out the Stiles Farmers Market inside Port Authority. It looks scary because of the homeless people outside and the dark door that says, "we accept food stamps" but once you get inside it's great, cheap, fresh local produce and tons of yuppies shopping.
Best,
Sarah
Welcome to NYC! I haven't explored the city as much as I'd like yet, but here are a few places I really like:
Penelope (30th between Park and 3rd). My mom and I have made it a tradition to go here for brunch every time she's in town. It's small and the wait on Sundays is long, but the service and food are always dead on.
Community Food & Juice (113th and Broadway): I'm a West Side girl, so most of the places I go to are accessible via the 1 line. It's totally hit/miss after 11:30, but the banana pancakes with maple butter are ballin'. I go far more often than I check-in.
I also love visiting the green markets that pop up all over the city. I actually tried hot apple cider for the first time in union square! I somehow end up in Bryant Park on the weekends for no reason whatsoever. My feet just take me there regardless of where I am.
And I MUST second Gramercy Tavern and LaDuree.
Very sneaky sneak peeks! I'm dying to see everything, as are you I'm sure ;)
Welcome to the city! Here are some of my favorites :)
Jack's Stir Brew Coffee is a must!
Ladurée of course!
Isabella's on Columbus-wonderful for brunch!
And Shake Shack, too ;)
-Emma {hellofromhartfield.blogspot.com}
Like everyone said, Laduree at 70th & Madison is to die for (caramel et fleur de sel is so amaze)! They make the best macaroons ever! Just be prepared to wait in line especially on the weekends because they are always busy.
The Counter in Times Square has amazing custom burgers and milkshakes (try banana with nutella!)
Spend a Saturday night in Grand Central Station! There are so many cute restaurants in their (Campbells Place, Oyster Restaurant), shopping, and just for people watching (the best is when wedding parties come in for photos!)
I can't wait to see more photos of the apartment, these little photos are killing me!

Welcome to the city! There are endless options but some favorites include:
Brunch
Friend of a Farmer, 77 Irving Place
Comfort Food
S'MAC - a couple of locations, E 33rd and E 12th
French
Le Parisien Bistrot, 163 E 33rd
Bakery
La Delice, 372 3rd Ave
Pub
Mumbles Restaurant, 179 3rd Ave
Last but not least, Wafels and Dinges are an awesome late night (or anytime) snack! You can hunt down the truck online.
Enjoy!
Rachel
Best wishes for this AMAZING journey! I am actually headed up to NYC for a short work trip this week. One of these times, hopefully we can catch up!
I love, love , love Chelsea. Dinner at Buddakan is a must. And you will love perusing the Chelsea Market!
Can't wait to see the new digs!

Loved reading through these suggestions - I've already bookmarked this page for future trips down from Maine. We love Schiller's, Tipsy Parson, Co., Buvette, Peels, and Grey Dog but I'm anxious to try Perla, Cafe Cluny and The Cardinal. We wrote about some of our favorites from our last visit here: http://mapandmenu.com/new-york-ny/
If you like chocolate (and let's face it, who doesn't?), you should definitely check out Max Brenner. The trip to Union Square is totally worth it. They incorporate chocolate into some of their mains like cocoa powder on their waffle fries and the desserts are to die for. S'mores in a restaurant? So much fun! There's also a chocolate shop to peruse and tempt you like no other.
There is a FANTASTIC little brunch spot called La Tarte Flambee on the UES, I highly recommend it :) Make sure you visit Brooklyn, too-there are AMAZING places just off the Bedford Ave stop in Williamsburg, including the BK Flea & in the summer they do Smorgasburg! I can think of about 500 places, too, but I don't want to run you over with suggestions too quickly :)
