DO YOU WEAR A WATCH?

On the day I turned 18, my dad woke me up and told me we were going to pick out my birthday present. He had decided that the one thing I didn't have in my bursting-at-the-seams closet was a nice pair of sunglasses. So we drove to the store together, spent at least an hour trying on different frames, and settled on a classic tortoiseshell pair by Ralph Lauren. I still cherish them — and my dad's thoughtful birthday gesture — six years later.

I wonder if watches are a similar sort of investment, a perfect gift for the girl who has everything. They're more of a style statement than any sort of necessity in this digital age, but there's something very chic about having such a signature piece to don every morning. So tell me: do you wear a watch? Did you buy it yourself or was it a gift? What does yours look like? Browse a few of my favorites below:

my mom bought me a kate spade watch last year for my birthday that I love but I haven't worn it in awhile. now this post has me wanting to wear it again! I think watches are excellent gifts - they aren't exactly something you would buy for yourself & can be really special. I've always said I want to collect watches so I guess I better get started wearing mine! end essay.

My husband (boyfriend at the time!) bought me a gold Michael Kors watch for my birthday four years ago and I still wear it every single day. In fact, I feel naked without it!

I have the problem of loving watches but not nice watches. I like Garmin watches and really nice sports watches that are quite expensive :)

Sunglasses and watches are perfect gifts. I wear a watch almost everyday and never leave the house without a pair of sunglasses.

Interesting topic because I was thinking the other day about how I never wear my 'signature' watch(es) anymore.

I have a men's style, oversized gold Michael Kors watch with a navy(!) face. I got it as a birthday gift a few years ago from my parents and treasure it - especially because I don't believe it's sold or made anymore. I also have a minimal silver Calvin Klein watch with a black face that I got for christmas. It's definitely more casual/sporty than the huge, gold MK one.

Anyyyyway, I think the reason I haven't worn either is because of the summer heat. I'm sure I'll wear them again come cooler fall temps...

(sorry for novel)

My parents really wanted to get me a watch for graduation. I thought it seemed sort of random, but I love it and wear it almost every day! I have the simple Cartier tank watch - I love it!

I wear a vintage two toned Rolex that I got for my high school graduation and a stainless steel Cartier Tank Francaise that I got for my college graduation. I cherish both watches and plan to wear them for the rest of my life. I think they are investment pieces, because I don't feel the need to buy any other watches.

I wear a Kate Spade watch that I got in their Madison Avenue store when I was in New York in July. It was my college graduation present from my parents. I love it and I know I'll cherish it for a long, long time!

I MUST have a watch on. I've worn a watch every day since first grade when my dad took me to Wal-Mart and I picked out a $20 Timex with a white leather band. The band was replaced a zillion times and I probably put it through the wash at least once, but that thing kept going until after I graduated college. I went a little while without a watch and then stumbled upon a brass colored, square ish Fossil at TJ Maxx and I LOVE it.

I think it's a great gift for a milestone occasion, albeit a slightly personal one. Definitely something to pick out with the recipient or be sure to include the gift receipt!

My boyfriend bought me a Michael Kors watch (the Stainless Steel Midsized Chronograph Runway) for our anniversary last year. I wear it every day and absolutely love it! I think watches make wonderful gifts.

My dad got me my first nice watch for my 18th birthday - a dainty two-toned Citizen. I still have - and LOVE - it! Now I buy myself watches as presents, but I think of them as jewelry!

I did every day til my wedding day, 8+ years ago. I took it off to not have it in my photos and for some reason never put it back on. I have been trying and failing to get back into the habit since. I want to, but I can't seem to get into the habit.

I have two watches: a gold, boyfriend Michael Kors and a black and silver Michele watch. Totally worth the investment and adds chic to any arm party!

Yes! I got my first..and only "big girl" watch for my 18th...the MK tortoise shell in your line up! Still love it but eyeing a new one for the bday coming up!

I used to wear a Swatch I picked up on a trip to Paris. It lasted me forever! Now I wear a kate spade gramercy grand watch- love the look but have to admit extremely disappointed in quality. I never thought I needed a watch until I wore one for a while. Days I forgot it I was constantly looking down at my wrist for the time. Even though I guess I don't need a watch because I always have my phone, I feel like it's much more polite to look at my watch during meetings than taking out my phone.

I received a mougin piquard watch from their jcrew collab for my birthday this year and I'm loving it! I always go for mens watches, timex and casio are definitely my go-to brands.

My grandmother got me my gold Michael Kors watch for my 20th birthday and it is one of the most special presents I ever received. Watches are great because they are the optimal combination of the practical and the aesthetic.

And nerdy shoutout: In Harry Potter, watches are given for their 17th birthdays :)

Watches are a must. There is something so much more appealing about looking at a watch to give someone the time versus pulling out your cell phone. I have a gold, and silver one, and am thinking of investing in a Michael Kors Tortoiseshell one as well. They're a perfect and practical accessory!

I remember for my 17th birthday, my dad gave me a watch...that I still wear! Although we've got our iPhones now, watches are still relevant and what makes us still connected with time gone by and present, literally.

Oh, I love my watch. I got it for high school graduation from my parents. It's a beautiful TAG Heuer, with both silver and gold links (which is a good idea if you wear a lot of both!). The face is mother of pearl, and each number is a tiny diamond. I've worn it every single day for 4 years! It's definitely worth the investment to have one that will hold up and last you a lifetime. Can't wait to see what you decide! :)

My parents gave me a two toned DY watch for my college graduation. It is the once piece of jewelry that I know will never go out of style and is always going to be a classic!

My aunt got me two similar Michael Kors watches as a graduation gift from Bucknell - 2 years later, and they are both still going strong! I love them, feel naked without them, and they are one of my most complimented items that I own! :)

Yes. I have truly loved watches since I was a little girl. They are a necessity in my book :)

I totally still wear a watch, it's both a style statement and something useful when I'm in meetings and it's too rude to look at my phone - I can pop a peak ay my wristwatch! :)
I have one and I bought it myself... I'm lusting for more tho!
Love this post!!

I have a few really nice watches, but I never wear them any more. I think it's been 3 years I haven't worn a watch! Before that I used to wear one every day. At first I felt naked without it & my wrist felt too light. Now I rather check my cell for the time. I feel a bit guilty that I don't wear my expensive watches I got as gifts but I guess they keep their value this way!
Designer sunglasses are a better investment I think, I wear those all the time and can't live without them!

Being a (future) dr by day means that I have to wear a watch. I've gotten so used to it that i now wear one all of the time! I feel naked if i look down and there isn't one on my wrist. I've gathered a few so that I don't have to wear the same one every single day and some of the Kate Spades are definitely my favorites (#putabowonit #livecolorfully)! The only difference is that during my down time it's often incorporated into a nice stack.

I really love the look of watches on other people but I as much as I tell myself I would wear one all the time I know I probably wouldn't. Maybe if I found a watch to fit securely around my wrist... this doesn't stop me from always admiring all the great watches out there.

I received the tortoiseshell Michael Kors watch that you featured in your roundup as a Christmas gift from my grandparents. Despite the fact that it's a fairly popular design and so I'm often not the only one wearing it in a group, I feel like it adds a special touch to any outfit. Furthermore, it has special meaning because it's the last big gift I ever received from my grandpa - definitely glad I asked for something that year that I will continue to use throughout my life!

I also found it to be especially helpful in college and nowadays in work situations - glancing at a pretty watch face is much more subtle than checking a phone for the time!

I bought myself the Cartier tank anglaise for my 25th birthday and I haven't had a moments regret since! It's classic, chic and will never go out of style. Also, it doesn't create a bump under long sleeved shirts/sweaters; one of my pet peeves!

I have the oh-so-trendy gold michael kors chronograph watch that I love, but my everyday, classic, never-out-of-style watch is my Daniel Wellington "Classy St. Andrews" watch. Beautiful leather strap, rose gold, and feminine, I can't leave the house without it

For my 30th birthday my father bought me a Cartier Tank watch. I wear it everyday. Not only because it's a classic timepiece, but because it is a reminder of what a wonderful dad I'm lucky enough to have.

I have a rose gold Michael Kors watch that I treated myself to a few years ago. I absolutely love it and I wear it every weekend (I don't wear it during the week because I'm a toddler teacher and it would get ruined in about five seconds)!
