I've been making an effort to take more of my own photos lately (here and here, for starters!) which means lugging my camera everywhere I go. I wasn't a huge fan of the strap that came with my camera (I felt like a walking advertisement for a camera I hardly know how to use...) but I didn't want to spend much to replace it.
Then it hit me: I had a beautiful leather strap from my everyday handbag that I kept in my dresser despite the fact that I never wear it as a crossbody bag. Bingo! The gold clips fit perfectly around the existing black loop and the leather strap can be adjusted to the perfect length for carrying around the city. I couldn't be happier with it — and I didn't spend a penny! My kind of DIY. :)

Oh my gosh ... brilliant idea! I just got a Canon last week for my birthday and I too felt like a big sign above my head that either said "tourist" or "advertisement" when carrying it with the strap that comes with it. I definitely have some handbags that could share the strap! Now for the camera bag ...

This is such a great idea! I've been wanting a cool camera strap, but would never think to browse around in my own closet first. I bet I have one from a handbag that I could use too!
That's a pretty great idea, actually! I'm a photographer in Virginia and I've never replaced my strap, simply because I don't have the time or money to bother with it. I shoot as a job, and carry my camera in my camera bag when I'm walking around. But I've always wanted a pretty strap. I'm definitely going to do this when I get home from work today with a pretty soft pink shoulder bag I never use. And I'll probably blog all about it and mention your adORable blog, of course. Thanks for the idea! :)
