BAHAMAS BOUND

I love an excuse to shop as much as the next girl and an upcoming vacation usually does the trick! I'm so excited to be heading to the Bahamas in August for our friends' wedding in Lyford Cay. I've never been and I can't wait to soak up some time in the sun and spend some quality time celebrating Jane and Scottie! In the mean time, I've got quite the shopping list: bikinis, cover-ups, sandals, and — oh, right — whatever I'm going to wear to the actual wedding! Here's what I'll be wearing on the beach during the day (with SPF 10,000, obviously)...

Kate Spade sunglasses c/o  //  Elizoebeth Jensen monogrammed necklace c/o
J.Crew clutch  //  Essie "Fancy Delancey"  //  Old Navy flip flops c/o

Now this is the kind of print mixing I can handle: a striped cover-up and a subtle floral print bikini, both in the tried-and-true combination of neon pink and bright white. The bikini is lightly padded, true to size, really flattering for the price. I know it's a little hard to see in the pictures but it has the cutest thistle print detail that I'll be wearing to the Bahamas, Nantucket, and everywhere in between (and let's hope there are lots of in-betweens!). If you're beach bound this summer, Old Navy has a great assortment of affordable tops and bottoms that you can mix and match to your liking. Oh and did I mention this one is $8? Not a typo. Shop to it!

OUTFIT + GIVEAWAY {HAYDEN REIS + JACK ROGERS}

Nantucket never lets me down and this weekend was no exception. We had the best trip with a big group of friends plus my cousins and siblings all under one roof. We weathered a hurricane (rosé to the rescue!), had brunch with my grandmother, swam at Cisco, went to church in 'Sconset, and had ice cream cones at least once a day. Does it get better than that? I think not.

I managed to pack everything for three days/nights in one bag thanks to my new tote from Hayden Reis. It was designed just for me in hot pink and navy blue stripes and now you can scoop one up for yourselves on their website! I'll also note that I got a little too close to the water and the bag got drenched with my iPhone inside it. I almost panicked before realizing that the sailcloth exterior kept everything inside perfectly dry.

Say hello to my new bikini... We're in love and it's getting serious. I tried it on in store at Topshop (and used my student discount for 10% off... never mind that I'm 24 and graduated three years ago) and couldn't leave the store without it. Seriously flattering. Order up one size, two if you have a bigger chest.

Jack Rogers sent over the most perfect sandals in this bright pink-y coral color. The Georgia Jelly sandals are perfect for the beach but could easily be dressed up for dinner in town. I love that they're reminiscent of the classic Navajo sandal but updated in plastic for those of us who don't take our Jacks off all summer.

You already saw the top to this monogrammed bikini but the little monogram on the bottoms is equally precious. The fit is also awesome and true to size if you're looking for a good basic for your next vacation!

OUTFIT {PINK SCALLOPED SHORTS}

Looking for an affordable pair of pink scalloped shorts? I've been searching ever since stumbling upon this pin sometime last year. And I can finally say I've found them: the perfect pair of pink scalloped shorts for just $38. I can't resist preppy brights in the summer (more evidence herehere, and here) so this look is something of a seasonal uniform for me. Easy breezy top, bright shorts, comfy flats for walking. And an ice cold lemonade because, hi, have you stepped outside lately?

But back to the shorts. They're the perfect shade of hot pink — not bubblegum, not quite neon — and I can't get enough of the scalloped edge. Yes, linen is prone to wrinkling, but it's also one of the only fabrics I can fathom wearing when the temperature hits 90 in New York. The fact that they match perfectly with my colorblocked espadrilles is just the icing on the cake.

One of the biggest takeaways for me from your feedback a couple weeks ago was that a lot of you want to see more affordable finds mixed in with the more wishlist-worthy items I feature on Design Darling. And I want you to know: I read you loud and clear. Thankfully I'm past my days of scooping up $6 "going out tops" at Forever 21 (why? WHY?), but there are plenty of ways to look preppy, polished, and put together without breaking the bank. Am I still going to splurge on classic pieces I can't live without? 100%. But when I find an awesome $25 t-shirt or $54 dress, you're going to know about it. Deal? Deal.

OUTFIT {STRIPES ON STRIPES}

If you peep my closet at a glance, you'll see that the vast majority of it is navy, white, or navy and white stripes. (If it ain't broke, don't fix it.) I'm not usually one to mix prints but I thought it would be fun to try sporting two striped pieces at once. I think it's easiest to pull off when the stripes are the same color but of different widths. I'll let you be the judge...

Since stripes on stripes is a little outside my comfort zone, I paired the outfit with classic leather accessories. I've been living in these shoes (seen previously here and here) and I'm head over heels for this leather tote that the team at Henri Bendel sent to me. I know it's a timeless piece I'll have for years to come (and it just barely fits my laptop — always a plus!). I wore this outfit to shoot the next career feature (coming next week!) so walkable wedges and a big bag were a must.

I'm also wearing a couple pieces from BaubleBar, including a rope bracelet from my friend Grace's collection. If you're looking to add a couple nautical accessories to your summer look, do take a peek

OUTFIT {FOURTH OF JULY}

This outfit is so common it's practically a cliché (at least on my college campus and in line at my corner Starbucks every weekend). Let's call it the I'm-wearing-workout-wear-because-it's-comfy-not-because-I-have-any-intention-of-actually-working-out look. Are you familiar? I'm pretty sure we've all been there: comfy t-shirt, running shorts, and a dash of mascara if you remember it before you race out the door. It's the easiest combination to throw on for running errands in the city, chasing around the family dog, or heading to the beach on a windy day. Trendsetting? No. But practical? Very.

Any old t-shirt will do but I've got a secret weapon when it comes to cute running shorts. Enter Krass & Co., a collection of preppy shorts for men and women. Want something nautical? Here you go. Quirky? Voilà. Patriotic? You bet.

I also have a gingham pair in the works with Krass & Co. so stay tuned for an announcement when those are available! I just wanted to share this festive pair in case you wanted to order in time for the Fourth of July (just place your order by Sunday!).

I'm so happy it's the weekend. This week was super productive (art pop-up and new arrivals!) but I definitely need a couple days to hit the reset button. Are your weekend plans adventurous or relaxing? Whatever you're up to, make it a good one! xx

OUTFIT {STRIPES IN 'SCONSET}

This Old Navy maxi dress was the perfect choice for a stroll around 'Sconset last weekend. Between the gorgeous homes, manicured lawns, and ocean views, 'Sconset is my absolute favorite spot in Nantucket and always a favorite place to bring first time visitors. My mom grew up spending summers in a house on Baxter Road and it's fun to retrace her old stomping grounds. I've yet to bring a friend who didn't immediately fall in love!

Remember this Kate Spade tote? It's the perfect size for two beach towels and a bottle of sunscreen. Sadly it was too cold to spend all day on the beach but it was nice to dip our toes in the Atlantic after the longest winter ever. Just another reason to get back to the island in July... :)

I've worn this monogrammed necklace every day since it arrived... I love the idea of a personalized piece for everyday wear that also layers well with more statement-making pieces. (See also: this monogrammed cuff.)

A girl can never own too many Jack Rogers. I've long since lost count of how many pairs I've worn into the ground over the years but I can safely say there's no more sound investment for your summer wardrobe.

Isn't the tulip hem pretty? I picked up a couple other Old Navy goodies for summer and intend to spend the summer in their easy breezy everyday dresses. Paired with chic tortoiseshell sunnies and classic gold Jacks, you really can't go wrong.

{OUTFIT} AFFORDABLE WHITE JEANS

I was back in my old stomping grounds on the Upper East Side last week for two upcoming career spotlights and happily stopped by Carl Schurz Park to see the cherry blossoms in action. It could not have been a more gorgeous day — I was thrilled to shed my jacket and don white denim for the first time in months. And creep on other people's dogs because, I mean, why not?

Now about these jeans. I somehow misplaced my favorite pair from last summer so I've been on the hunt for an affordable replacement in the hopes that I'll eventually find the original pair. I thought I'd take a chance on Old Navy's white skinny jeans and was surprised to find that I like them just as much as my original favorite, which is saying a lot since they retail for under $35. They have the perfect amount of stretch and look super cute rolled up at the ankle now that it's finally sandal weather. If you're looking for affordable white jeans (aren't we all?), I'm giving this pair two thumbs up!

OUTFIT {GO BRIGHT OR GO HOME}

These pictures make me so happy! New York is truly in bloom right now — cherry blossom trees, tulips in every color under the sun, and window boxes starting to look alive again. It's perfect inspiration to introduce more color into my life so I started with pairing this hot pink silky tank (under $50!) with this bright orange statement necklace (only $35!).

I don't usually wear orange as a redhead but I do think affordable costume jewelry is a great place to step a little outside your color comfort zone. Sole Society is definitely best known for their affordable shoes but I was really pleasantly surprised with their jewelry assortment. There are plenty of brights to choose from! This necklace will be just as cute with a blue oxford shirt or a classic striped tee. And I can't wait to replicate this look sans blazer with white jeans for dinner dates this summer. Are you a brights or neutrals kind of girl?

OUTFIT {HARVEY FAIRCLOTH STRIPED SKIRT}

Every now and then I stumble upon a pricier piece of clothing and my instant reaction is, "want it, need it, have to have it." The last time this happened was with my Alice & Olivia bow jacket... I saw it, fell in love, and couldn't bear the thought of passing it up only to regret not having it later on (reverse buyer's remorse, anyone?). The same was true for this skirt: navy and white stripes, tulip shape, WITH pockets?! I couldn't resist. I actually bought it right after Christmas (and followed the purchase with a month of no shopping) so I'm ecstatic that it's finally warm enough to wear it in public! I'm so in love with it that I can safely say it was a sound investment for my wardrobe. What was your last investment purchase? Do you still love it? I'm dying to hear! xx

OUTFIT {ANNIE GRIFFIN BLOUSE}

I just love this color combination of French blue, grass green, and turquoise. It feels so summery! Just sub in white jeans (for some reason, I can't find mine anywhere...) and you'd be Nantucket-ready. The proportions of this billowy top are just right with skinny jeans and make it the perfect silhouette for a big brunch (Café Cluny is right down the street from where we took these pictures, ahem!). I can't get enough of Annie Griffin's girly gorgeous designs (last seen here and here) and I can't wait to show you what she has in store for summer — SO GOOD. Exciting news: use code DARLING20 at checkout for 20% off your whole purchase!

P.S. More turquoise jewelry here, here, and here.
