the weekend already?

this week definitely slipped out from under me! i'll be spending the weekend touring one of the loire valley's celebrated châteaux and the home of the late great leonardo da vinci. i thought i'd sign off with some light and bright vignettes to contrast the rainy weather we've been having in tours (although i did spot a rainbow today!).
aren't they pretty? they've got me daydreaming of spring flowers and sunshine bigtime. i'll be back on monday with my first daily feature — it's going to be a good one! have a lovely weekend everyone!

what time is it?

time to get a watch! here are my picks.

la mer's brown leather simple wrap watch ($76) has been on my wishlist for a while now. i love the classic face and the unexpected double strap. la mer also carries the simple wrap in really fun colors (i love the neon pink and the orange!) as well as a line with chains and charms. reasonable prices and customization options definitely put this line at the top of my list.

i gave my boyfriend j.crew's timex military watch ($150) for christmas and he loves it! the face has a beautiful vintage feel and you can swap out the black strap for bright solids or preppy stripes (current promotion is $30 for two straps, so why not both?!) on a whim. perfect as a gift or a way to add some androgynous appeal to your own look. (i will attest that the strap can be tightened to the size of my wrist!)
i love both of these oversized options from michael kors. i like the versatility of the resin ($225) — silver and clear go with everything! — as well as the timeless appeal of the tortoise ($250).

conversation pieces

why relegate art to the living room or the bedroom? these dining room tableaux offer a welcome burst of color and provide a great talking point for every dinner party.
an almost life-size birch tree threatens to steal the show from an out-of-this-world yellow floor lamp.
a punchy polka dot print jazzes up natural wood tones.
a small red canvas makes a big impact from its unexpected perch on a windowed wall.
an abstract work dominates an otherwise traditional dining room.
ten small portraits — and an eleventh to the right — are the finishing touch in this charismatic dining room.

framed striped fabric breaks up a monochromatic, though flavorful, purple room.
mismatched chairs and mismatched paintings look cohesive in a dining room with white ceilings, walls, and floors.

sleeping in

i don't have class until 2 o'clock on thursdays so you can bet i will be making the most of my morning — by staying in bed as late as possible. i'm usually all for waking up early and getting a good start on the day but tomorrow is most definitely a day for sleeping in. lucky me!

bucknell orange

maybe it's my school spirit or my "red" hair piping up but lately i've been very drawn to bursts of orange in clothing and home décor. whether you go wild with an all-orange ensemble or keep it simple with a couple well-placed interior accessories, i hope you'll be equally inspired by these pretty examples.
the girl who never gets it wrong: olivia palermo knows when to keep it simple and when to go for broke.
a tangerine hue for the structured silhouette of amber valletta's dress and the walls of this vibrant home office.
an oft-blogged-about vignette that i still can't get over: punchy mirrors flanked by pretty topiaries.
floral or ruffled, orange can have a wonderfully whimsical impact.
red-orange works beautifully on the sartorialist's muse and this chair featured in real simple.
the stunning jessica stam and a one-of-a-kind dining room show that orange and black doesn't have to mean halloween.

on the subject of pants

these are pretty fun.

7 for all mankind vintage bell bottom jeans, sale $171.50.

they remind me of this picture:

cargo pants (for girls!)

in one word: yes. provided they're not of the camouflage or zip-off variety, this is one of my mom's all-time favorite looks. i've always disagreed with her — but that was before i found all these perfectly feminine options for rocking this look come spring and summer.
my pants dublin cargo pants ($168)
7 for all mankind josefina cargo pants ($189)
juicy couture parachute utility pants ($158)
juicy couture slim cargo pants, $138
j.crew ripstop cargo pant ($79.50)

pretty topiaries

we spotted lots of topiaries (of all things) around london this weekend and thought i'd share some inspiring pictures i've been gathering. enjoy!

Thank God It's Friday!

i've just finished our two weeks of intensive french at the language institute! this is real cause for celebration around here, so i'm packing my bags and heading for london! i'm off to see a pretty special someone and i couldn't be more excited. i hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

spoiled rotten

if you love your dog(s) as much as i love mine, you'll have no choice but to invest in a new doggy bed by molly mutt.
here's the concept:
you buy a dog duvet ($20 - $40, in a variety of pretty patterns), order a stuff sack ($10 - $15):
pack in some old t-shirts and towels, and voila! your pup has a supercute new bed:
