Currently reading...

Library cards are a wonderful thing. When I was feeling homesick during my first week in San Francisco, my dad suggested that I get lost in a good book. I got my library card the next day and have read every evening since.

The fact that I have a few reading tasks on my 101 in 1001 list should explain the diversity of my current reads.

21. Read every Harry Potter book (5/7).
60. Read every Jane Austen novel (1/6).
69. Read twenty new-to-me books (1/20).

I'm making steady progress and, more importantly, enjoying the opportunity to read for pleasure now that my collegiate years are behind me. Tell me, what are you reading these days?

Fun post! I just got lost in Victoria Hislop's The Island. What a tale! I enjoyed every last page and didn't know what to do with myself once it ended. Enjoy your reads and share the best of them with us!

Oh please share some of your favorite New-to-Me reads... I'm always looking for one! One of my favorites from this summer was The Provence Cure for the Brokenhearted: A Novel by Bridget Asher. xoxoC

That was a really good advice!
Every time I moved, books helped a lot to kill time when I was feeling nostalgic...

Plus, read is sooo nice! Such a good escape... :-)

I am always reading! But I am a bit chaotic and I usually read 3 to 4 books together (if not more...)

xx,
A.

Today is 1000!
I just finished reading The Girls Who Went Away by Ann Fessler (couldn't put it down but very depressing real accounts)
and am now reading Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes?

Love your selection! I am finishing up Bill Bryson's At Home (fascinating) and then starting A Good Indian Wife by Anne Cherian. Haven't picked up an Austen book in a while, but loved Poppy King (consistency is my nemesis)... xoxo michele

OK, you've sufficiently inspired me...I'm starting up reading again. Haven't read a book since I graduated in May and I'm feeling quite lazy! Maybe I'll also take on the rest of the Jane Austen novels. There's nothing like flipping the pages of a *real* book as opposed to reading on a Kindle... :)

I'm so happy you did this post and I can read your suggestions and everyone else's. I have a daughter who's Harry Potter crazy, and I promised her that this summer I'd read the series so that we could discuss. I thought it would be such a sacrifice on my part, but I'm liking them!

Just finished Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Would love to see some of your "new to me" reads. Great idea...

I just finished Await Your Reply and blogged a mini-review. It was GREAT. Now I'm on The Last Child, which is such a page-turner. Anything by Ann Patchett (Run, The Magician's Assistant, Bel Canto)!! She's a fellow Nashvillian. :)

Please let me know if you decide to read any of these. I love a good book discussion.

That's such a fabulous idea! I need to set more reading goals for myself... I oftentimes find myself reading at the end of the day (ie. when I'm prone to pass out mid-page). Throw some Hemingway in there, he's my fav! : )

Excellent idea! I've found letting myself get lost in music helps cure the homesickness as well. I just pop on some of my favourite tunes and it feels just a little bit like I'm back in Canada.

Reading all of the Jane Austen novels is on my "lifetime to do list" as well. So far, I've read 3 (Sense and Sensibility, Emma and Northanger Abbey) and am in the midst of my 3rd right now (Persuasion). I've really enjoyed each that I've read, but I find them to be to sort of books I need to read in small doses, so I read one each summer. Emma was my favourite, and I highly recommend it for your 2nd book. ;)
