WEEKEND WARDROBE

Inspired by thisthis and this, an outfit of head-to-toe neutrals...

I saw this trench in person the other day and it has the cutest pop of orangey red inside... So I guess I cheated on the whole totally neutral thing ;) Have a great weekend!

WHEN IN DOUBT, BRING FLOWERS

One of my friends brought me the prettiest bouquet of pink tulips as a housewarming gift (aren't they gorgeous?) and they make me so happy every time I walk in the door. Note to self: the next time I'm invited to a friend's place, flowers it is! And in case you're curious, here are my three favorites...
Pink tulips...
And pink peonies. What's your favorite flower? Do you have a go-to housewarming gift?

P.S. Lots more floral inspiration right here!

FOR THE LOVE OF JOIE

I noticed yesterday that basically all the shoes that I've "hearted" on Shopbop are made by Joie. Umm hello, can you blame me? I don't think I can live without the striped pair. Really my only question is... Sandals, smoking slippers, or both?

NEW ARRIVALS!

I might be working from my bed until my chairs and sofa arrive but my home office is now up and running so I decided it was high time for new arrivals in the boutique! I just added more than twenty new products and couldn't be more excited about them. There's something for everyone, whether your New Year's resolution was to accessorize better, entertain more, grocery shop instead of ordering takeout, tidy your workspace, or write more thank you notes. Shop all the new arrivals here and let me know what you think!

4 DECORATING IDEAS FOR MY NEW STUDIO

I hope you had a lovely weekend! I spent mine with a rotating crew of family and friends helping me move into my new apartment (seriously, what would I do without them?). One thing I'm learning about furnishing a 375 square foot studio is that every purchase has to be completely deliberate. There's no "let's buy it and find a spot for it" because there simply is no extra space. So far that means using an oversized bookshelf as a room divider (which you can sort of see here), a deep windowsill as a bedside table, and a dining table that will double as a work surface for packing boxes for my boutique. I'm surprised at just how much I've been loving the challenge! Here are a few spaces that are inspiring me at the moment...
My space is even tinier than Elizabeth Bauer's gorgeous studio but I love that she divided a small space into two distinct rooms. I adore the glass divider but we used a bookshelf for much-needed storage!
I'm totally hung up on finding the perfect white bedding! Monogrammed pillows would be the perfect finishing touch, don't you think?
My studio only has two windows but thankfully they're quite big and let in a good deal of natural light. I'm excited to build pelmet boxes (using this tutorial) with my mom and love the idea of adding bright white trim.
I keep coming back to this picture as an example of perfectly styled bookshelves. The mix of books, storage, and personal touches makes you totally forget it's from Ikea!

There you have it: a vague idea of where I'm headed with this ;) I can't tell you how much fun I'm having with it! What decorating projects are next on your to do list?

WEEK IN REVIEW

Wooohoooo! We've survived the first week of 2013. Who's ready for the weekend? I'm gearing up for another trek into the city to hopefully settle into my studio for good. Eeek! Here's what I've been up to this week:
- Absolutely blown away by the number of people who have been inspired to write their own 101 in 1001 lists. If you have one, please tweet me the link so I can add you to #2 on my list!

- Assembled furniture in my new studio! Why didn't anyone tell me that moving is such a process?!

- Booked my flight for Alt Summit. I can't believe it's less than three weeks away! I'm already getting butterflies about my panel :)

- Contemplated countless combinations of Society Social furniture for my new abode. I can't wait to show you what I wind up with!

- Couldn't stop wearing my favorite Christmas present. Find it on sale right here!

- Created a beverages board on Pinterest. Cheers!

- Delighted in new posts on The Neo-Traditionalist! Katie's blog is an all-time favorite.

- Discovered the perfect pair of crystal studs for under $100.

- Made not one but two trips to Ikea. I'm obsessed with my new table!

What was the highlight of your week? Do tell and have a marvelous weekend! xx

HEAD OVER HEELS.

I loved this slideshow of author Stephanie LaCava's favorite New York haunts. I totally nodded my head when she said, "I sort of always wear the same things, though in different ways." Isn't that the definition of classic style?! Some of her outfits were a little edgier than my go-to looks but this one stopped me in my tracks:

Comfy sweater for winter warmth? Check. Skinny jeans and killer heels? Check, check. But it's the classic tote that gets me. Preppy can be completely modern and this look is proof. Just don't be surprised when you see me in ten different versions of it these next few months ;)

ON THE MOVE...

Do pardon the light activity around these parts this week as I move into my own little piece of New York! I've been saving my pennies and counting down the days for quite some time — it's hard to believe that it's actually happening! Yesterday my dad and boyfriend got most of the big pieces in place, which means my mom and I can get to the fun part: decorating! It's teeny tiny — 375 square feet, eek! — but I'm smitten with the natural light and eager to create a space that works for me, my business, and my puppy :) I have lots of fun projects I'm planning to tackle and I can't wait to share them all with you! And in the meantime, if you have any brilliant tips for making moving a little less stressful, I'm all ears...

NEW YEAR'S EVE

Happy New Year's Eve! I hope you all have fabulous plans to ring in 2013 in style. I'm dying to know what you'll be wearing when the clock strikes twelve: a classic LBD? my tried-and-true navy? something so sparkly it could only fly on NYE? Do tell!

YEAR IN REVIEW...

I can hardly believe that 2012 is coming to a close. What. A. Year!

In January, I started writing for my favorite digital magazine, Matchbook. In February, I attended New York Fashion Week for the first time and made a little street style cameo on Unabashedly Prep. In March, I launched Design Darling {The Boutique} (definitely the highlight of my year!). In May, I cohosted a Jack Rogers party (hello, dream collaboration!). In August, I attended Alt Summit NYC. In September, I hosted Fashion's Night Out at Alice & Trixie. In October, I found out I'd be speaking at Alt Summit Salt Lake City. In November, I hosted a holiday event with Elle Magazine at Kate Spade New York (pinch me please!). In December, I filmed a segment on holiday gifting for NBC Connecticut. And last week I stumbled upon the teeny tiniest NYC studio and yesterday — eeek! — signed a one-year lease.

All the while, I made steady progress on my 101 in 1001 list: buying my first grown-up bag, buying my parents an Apple computer, working out with a personal trainer, seeing a new Cirque du Soleil performance, trying acupuncture, taking a cooking lesson, seeing a comedy show, going to the top of the Empire State Building, going zip lining, upgrading to a DSLR camera, taking a self-defense class, and even participating in a flash mob.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this amazing year. I truly cannot wait to see what 2013 has in store!

xx
