Healthy Habits {101 in 1001}

Today I'm sharing a few more of the goals from my 101 in 1001 list. For people who have asked to see the entire list at once, I decided at the beginning to share the list over time a) because it's so long and b) because it's fun to share both goals and progress! Some goals are professional in nature, others financial, others pure fun. The goals I'm sharing today have to do with health and fitness — admittedly not my forté.

19. Drink eight glasses of water a day every day for one week. This is probably easy and mindless for some of you but to me it feels insurmountable. So. Much. Water!

33. Hire a personal trainer.

42. Take a self-defense class.

What do you do to stay healthy and in shape?

i felt the same way about water for a long time, but a friend of mine passed on a secret - buy one of those nalgenes, the really BIG ones, and put a straw in it. (yes.) fill it all the way up, and just keep it next to you all day. putting a straw in it makes it easieer to just drink a little at a time, but you find yourself actually drinking more because for once, water is super accessible when your body actually needs it. two of these nalgenes every day is your full eight glasses... so just track yourself. if, by around 2pm, your first nalgene is still full, chug and then fill up again. your body has to get used to the water intake. but eventually, it'll become something close to an oral fixation - and you'll find yourself drinking four nalgenes a day. (i swear.) your skin will thank you : )

I hired a personal trainer about 8 months ago and it has been so rewarding-I needed someone to "kick my butt". But I'm totally with you on the drinking 8 glasses of water a day-I think I drink about 2! It's so hard for me! Good luck! :)

i have so much trouble drinking enough water. i constantly feel dehydrated and it slows me down. i am going to take {dcwhip}'s advice i think. i have found that drinking water at a restaurant is always easier and it is probs because of the straw.

@ Cara - amen to consistency! I am trying to move more.. whether it is actual exercise or just plain moving. I wear a pedometer on the days when my outfit allows and try to make 10k steps my goal. I'm pretty competitive and at the end of the day, if I don't hit my 10k, I head to the treadmill! Another goal of mine is to start cooking. I just graduated from college in May and live in a 1 bedroom apartment so if I want to eat, it's all up to me!

Great goals!
I have a personal trainer and we work a lot on circuit training and weights. I do cardio on my own bc it's sooooo expensive to have a trainer for more than once or twice a week!

The nalgene with a straw tip is so true, it makes it so much easier!

That was my new years resolution last year. I treated myself to one propel before I switched over to water everyday. Made it so much easier.

TurboFire and ChaLEAN Extreme both keep me motivated. I drink 100-140 oz of water a day!!! It's crazy actually. When I started working out at the beginning of the year with so much determination to lose weight and get healthy at lot of things started falling into place. I exercise 5-6 days a week and the water issue is no longer an issue :)!!!

Lots of water! You should always start your day with 4 glasses of water right away it will help to fill you up and many times we mistake thirst and dehydration for hunger. Instead of a nalgene get a Tervis Tumbler with a straw its easy and mindless to drink from a straw and the Tervis is double insulated so your water will stay cold.
Good luck with your fitness goals!

I need to drink (much) more water, too! And to stay fit and healthy, I try to ride my bike, job, and yoga as often as I can, but I also just ordered that Insanity workout video... for a 60 day challenge. Wish me luck! Eek!

water- second the tervis tumbler...the largest size is perfect. you can also buy straws & lids that fit these cups.
exercise & nutrition- crossfit. fast workout (<30 mins), less expensive than personal trainer & makes me feel leaned out like an athlete. exercise is only secondary to nutrition! cook planned meals ahead.

Best wishes with the fitness goals! With the water thing, have you ever tried Crystal Light? I used it at first to help me get used to drinking so much water during the day. Once I got into the habit, I slowly waned myself off and onto pure water. :)

Cool tips! Def want to get to a point where I hire personal trainer! I also like drinking green tea, eating strawberries and doing yoga. Always at my best when yoga is in my routine!

Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day must become a routine. What do I do to stay healthy and in shape? Drink lots of water, play tennis and walk a lot (it's so important to find a sport you really enjoy rather than having a personal trainer or going to the gym), eating as healthy as possible.

You're probably pretty young, but as you get older, you realize you've got to take action. I just turned 47, I drink about 10 glasses of water/day (just keep the water bottle full all the time), I lift weights 3-4x/wk, yoga 1x/wk, hiking 1x/wk, and am starting a Crossfit class next week. Just think of all this as hygiene -- that's how I stay consistent. But there's never a regular time to all this!

I hope you will do your self-defense class. I teach Fight Like a Girl self-defense, and it's extremely empowering. The women who take my class say they can't believe they never learned it before. If you want to try to find an instructor who can teach you this method, let me know!

Enjoy your blog!

For me it is about consistency and keeping the fun in working out. After playing competitive soccer for so many years and so many injuries, it can take the fun out of it.

Drinking that much water is really hard for me too. And I also really recently decided I wanted to take some self-defense. It's just good sense!

1. I am using Waterlogged app to motivate me to get 8 glasses of water a day.
2. I hired a running coach.
3. Training for a marathon.
