101 IN 1001 {EXPERIENCES}

When I wrote out my 101 in 1001 list back in January 2011, I tried to place emphasis on having various experiences as opposed to indulging in various purchases. It sounds good but in reality those are the items I have the most trouble crossing off. Why? Because, truthfully, it's hard to resist the allure of a new dress to save up for something more meaningful. I hope by writing out a few such experiences I'll be more inclined to follow through and start checking these experiences off my list...

16. Take a ballroom dance class.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never properly learned and I think it's high time I master it, don't you? You know, before I start embarrassing my friends at their weddings ;)

37. See a new Cirque du Soleil performance.
My family has been three or four times and every single show has taken my breath away! This is a serious must for any of you who haven't yet been.

39. Ride on a sailboat.
This should be easy enough to cross off on Nantucket this summer, don't you think?

41. Try acupuncture.
I'm curious! How many of you have given it a go?

46. Spend a day with each of my siblings doing what they want, paid for by me.
Since there are four of us it's rare that we spend any one-on-one time together. (Does that sound like it's from an episode of The Bachelor? Oops.)

48. Take a cooking class.
Another skill I've failed to pick up. My sister Reilly kindly treated Michael and I to a vegetarian cooking lesson for Christmas — I just need to follow through and book the class!

61. Learn calligraphy.
Remember my faux calligraphy here

71. Go camping.
I'm sure it will come as no surprise that I'm not exactly the outdoorsy type but I do think it's something I should experience at least once!

98. Go skydiving.
Outdoorsy stuff aside, I do love adventure. I've been bungee jumping and hang gliding so this just feels like the next step!

What experiences are you saving up for? Do any of you have a 101 in 1001 list or something similar? Leave a link in the comments so I can check it out!

This is a great list! I should really do something like this too; otherwise, time just passes us by. I'd love to take a cooking class!

I'm 100% NOT the outdoorsy type either, but this year, I've consented to camping with a cabin. A toe in the water, if you will...

I really really REALLY REALLY REALLLLLYYY want to go to Paris this year.

This really makes me want to work on my list! One of my items is also "learn how to dance" and wedding season is the perfect excuse to book a class. Great idea Mackenzie!

I have always wanted a 101 in 1001 list but for now I just have a short list of 25 things to do before I turn 25. And I am slowly crossing the items off the list! And the experiences are the hardest ones to cross off!

Acupuncture is amazing! I was having a lot of back and neck pain from sitting at my computer all day and my yoga teacher suggested it... Now I try to go every two or so weeks!

Wow, I've done all of those things except the day with the siblings, which sounds like a great idea - and the experience I recommend most highly is acupuncture. It's an amazingly spiritual experience, which was very unexpected. I loved it.

Camping is great if you do it right... sailing is wonderful... and skydiving is the most frightening and exhilarating experience of your life, rolled into one.

Get on the calligraphy class! My mom teaches it off and on at a local museum for something to do, haha. And camping is highly overrated, haha.

I did a couple ballroom dancing classes with my Dad before my wedding. At first I was completely embarrassed, but then I ended up really enjoying it! I secretly want to learn to surf, but I'm not the most coordinated and I don't live by an ocean. So, we'll see how that goes!

I always like reading your updates on your list. I really need to make my own list. I`m curious about acupuncture too, but I hate needles so I`ll wait to see what you have to say about it! I was just watching the reality show on NYC realestate and one of the guys had acupuncture for the first time, it didn`t look to pleasant!

Great goals! I have a few friends that have gone skydiving and LOVED it! I'm not one for heights though! I also have a 101 in 1001. I usually try to break it down month by month so I stay focused to my goals... and so far so good! I have my full list here : http://vanillaandroseblog.com/2012/01/03/101-goals-in-1001-days/

With a baby on the way my hubby and I are trying to get as many experiences in before we become parents. Right now the list includes:
1. Take a guided ghost history tour of our city. (Sponsored by the local library)
2. Road trip to Savannah, GA. (Already booked!)
3. Go to a minor league baseball game in our city.
Good luck with your new adventures!
